Heraklion Removes Shared Electric Scooters From Public Spaces

Friday, 15 May 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
Heraklion municipality has launched a crackdown on shared electric scooters, removing them from public spaces as part of a coordinated enforcement operation. Deputy Mayor for Civil Protection and Municipal Police Giorgos Karantinos stated that safety is the top priority and called for electric scooters to be banned for minors. The action follows growing concerns about scooter use in pedestrian areas and public squares across the city center. For tourists visiting Heraklion, this means increased enforcement of scooter regulations in shared spaces. Riders may face fines or have their scooters confiscated if parked or operated in restricted zones. Visitors planning to rent electric scooters should check local rules before riding, stick to designated areas, and avoid lending them to underage travelers. The municipality has not announced a full ban, but further restrictions are expected.
