Blown Truck Tire Snarls Traffic on Heraklion Coastal Road

Wednesday, 13 May 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
A blown tire on a large truck caused significant traffic disruption this morning (May 13) on the road network above Kokkini Hani, east of Heraklion, at a section currently affected by ongoing roadworks. The truck remained at the scene while traffic backed up considerably in both directions. Kokkini Hani sits along the northern coastal route connecting Heraklion to the eastern part of the island, a road frequently used by tourists heading toward Malia, Agios Nikolaos, and Elounda. The combination of active construction works and the disabled vehicle created a bottleneck that led to long delays during the morning hours. Travelers planning to drive east from Heraklion today should allow extra time or consider alternative inland routes. Check local traffic conditions before departing, as the truck may still be affecting traffic flow in the area.
