Greek Seafarers' Strike May 1: All Ferry Services Halted

Wednesday, 22 April 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
On Friday, May 1, 2026, Greek seafarers will carry out a 24-hour nationwide strike affecting all categories of vessels. The strike is organized by the Panhellenic Seamen's Federation (PNO) and will halt ferry services across Greece, including routes to and from Crete via ports such as Heraklion, Chania, and Sitia. Tourists planning to travel by ferry on that date should expect full cancellations and make alternative arrangements in advance. Flights are not affected. If you have a ferry booking for May 1, contact your ferry operator or travel agent immediately to rebook for May 2 or later. The strike coincides with May Day, a public holiday in Greece, so additional disruptions to ground transport and services may also occur. Plan ahead and check your ferry operator's website for official updates closer to the date.
