Heraklion Airport Sees Strong April Growth Ahead of Summer Season

Monday, 4 May 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
Heraklion's Nikos Kazantzakis International Airport recorded 341,910 passenger arrivals in April 2026, posting positive growth despite ongoing uncertainty in the Middle East region. The strong figures indicate that demand for Crete as a destination remains solid heading into the main summer season, with travelers continuing to choose the island over competing Mediterranean destinations affected by regional instability. For visitors planning trips to Crete, the data suggests flight availability and seat capacity to Heraklion are holding up well. Travelers should expect a busy airport as summer approaches, particularly from June onward. Booking flights and transfers in advance is advisable. The airport serves the eastern and central parts of the island, with Heraklion city center reachable in around 15 minutes by taxi or bus from the terminal.
