Tuesday, 26 May 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
On the evening of Tuesday, May 26, a car caught fire on the BOAK highway near Chania, in western Crete. The vehicle's occupants managed to exit safely before the fire took hold, and the fire brigade was dispatched to the scene. No injuries were reported. The BOAK is the main east-west road artery connecting Chania to the rest of Crete, and incidents of this nature can cause temporary slowdowns or lane closures in the area. Travelers driving through Chania, particularly on the northern coastal highway, should expect possible traffic disruptions and allow extra time for their journey. If you notice emergency vehicles or road personnel in the area, reduce speed and follow any on-site instructions. The situation was being managed by local fire and road authorities.
