Hersonissos Port Upgrade Project Begins Geotechnical Surveys

Friday, 17 April 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
Geotechnical survey works have begun at the port of Hersonissos, marking an acceleration in the planning phase of a major port upgrade project. Hersonissos is one of the most visited resort towns on Crete's northern coast, located roughly 26 kilometres east of Heraklion. The surveys are a preparatory step before construction begins, meaning physical works are not yet underway. Tourists visiting the area this season should not expect significant disruption to current port operations. Once fully developed, the upgraded port is intended to improve maritime infrastructure and capacity in the region. Visitors planning to use the port for boat trips or water excursions can continue to do so normally for now. Updates on the construction timeline are expected as the planning process moves forward.
