Storm brings fallen tree hazard across Heraklion coastal towns

Friday, 17 April 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
On Friday, April 17, strong winds and severe weather caused tree branches to fall across several areas in the Heraklion regional unit, including the towns of Tympaki, Voros, and Kokkinos Pyrgos along the southern coast. Fire brigade and police units were placed on alert and dispatched to manage the hazards. Authorities are urging both drivers and pedestrians to exercise extreme caution in affected areas, as fallen branches pose risks on roads and footpaths. If you are traveling through the Messara plain or the southern Heraklion coastline today, slow down, watch for debris on the road, and avoid parking or walking under large trees until conditions improve. Check local conditions before heading out, as further incidents are possible while the weather system persists.
