Back to newsThe village of Anogia, in the mountains of central Crete, has officially opened the Anogia Weaving Center, a new cultural space dedicated to the region's centuries-old textile tradition. The center presents weaving not as a museum piece but as a living practice, with demonstrations and exhibits showing how local techniques continue to evolve today. Anogia has long been considered one of the strongholds of traditional Cretan weaving, known for its distinctive patterns and hand-loomed textiles. The center offers visitors a chance to observe craftspeople at work, learn about the cultural significance of the craft, and purchase authentic locally made pieces. Anogia is located approximately 35 kilometers south of Heraklion and is accessible by car via the road toward the Nida plateau and Mount Psiloritis. No admission details were specified at the time of the inauguration announcement.
