German Tourist Injured in Crete Gorge Rescue

Thursday, 14 May 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
A 47-year-old German tourist was seriously injured while hiking in a gorge in Crete and was rushed to Chania General Hospital. She sustained a leg fracture but is not in life-threatening condition. Emergency services carried out the rescue operation to extract her from the gorge and transport her to medical care. Visitors planning to hike Crete's gorges, including popular routes such as Samaria, Imbros, or Aradena, should take standard precautions: wear sturdy hiking boots with ankle support, carry water, avoid hiking alone, and check trail conditions before setting out. Gorge terrain can be uneven and rocky, increasing the risk of falls and fractures. It is also advisable to carry a charged mobile phone and inform someone of your planned route and expected return time before entering any gorge trail.
