Back to newsGreek authorities have announced stricter regulations on electric scooters (e-scooters), with measures expected to affect rental businesses across Crete and the broader country. Minister Kyranakis has announced a complete ban on minors using e-scooters, along with heavier fines for companies selling or renting scooters that do not meet safety specifications.
For tourists visiting Crete, this means rental operators will face increased scrutiny over the equipment they provide. If you plan to rent an e-scooter during your stay, ensure the vehicle displays a valid compliance mark and that any riders are adults. Children will not be legally permitted to ride e-scooters under the incoming rules.
The measures are part of a broader national push to reduce accidents involving personal light electric vehicles, which have risen sharply in tourist areas during peak summer season.
