Back to newsThe Hellenic Coast Guard conducted a series of rescue operations south of Crete, bringing 134 foreign nationals ashore at Kalos Limenes (Fair Havens), a small port on the island's southern coast. Operations were coordinated by the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) of the Hellenic Coast Guard Command. Port authorities were placed on high alert throughout the operations.
Kalos Limenes is located along the southern coastline between Matala and Lendas. While these events do not directly affect tourist areas, visitors traveling by boat or ferry along the southern coast should be aware that coast guard vessels may be active in these waters. If you witness anyone in distress at sea, contact the Hellenic Coast Guard immediately by calling 108. Tourists are advised to avoid interfering with ongoing rescue operations in the area.
