Greece has recorded its first confirmed mpox (monkeypox) case of 2026, involving a 45-year-old patient. The case was reported in the Epirus region, prompting local health authorities to activate monitoring and response protocols. Mpox spreads through close physical contact with an infected person, contaminated materials, or certain animals. Symptoms include fever, rash, and swollen lymph nodes. Health officials are conducting contact tracing and have not reported additional cases at this time. For tourists visiting Crete or anywhere in Greece, the overall risk remains low.
