Child Seriously Injured in Crete Pool Accident; Parents Urged to Supervise

Tuesday, 28 April 2026/SourceCretan Magazine/1 min read
A 5-year-old child from a Dutch tourist family was seriously injured in a swimming pool accident in Hersonissos and was taken into surgery with traumatic head injuries. The incident occurred at a pool in the popular resort town on Crete's north coast. Families traveling with young children are reminded to supervise them closely around hotel and villa pools at all times, regardless of pool size or apparent safety features. Hersonissos is one of Crete's busiest tourist destinations, and pool accidents, while uncommon, can happen quickly. Always check that your accommodation's pool meets safety standards, look for fencing, depth markings, and on-site supervision, and ensure children wear appropriate flotation aids if they are not confident swimmers.
