Back to newsThe Municipality of Gortyna, in the central-southern part of Crete, has signed a formal cooperation agreement with DAIDALOS S.A., a regional development organization, to strengthen the municipality's environmental and waste management services. The agreement aims to improve the efficiency of cleanliness operations across the area, which includes popular archaeological sites such as the ancient city of Gortyna and the Messara Plain. For visitors, this means better-maintained public spaces, cleaner roads, and improved waste collection in and around tourist destinations in the region. Gortyna is home to one of Crete's most significant Roman ruins, including the famous Law Code inscription, and attracts many visitors traveling through the south-central interior of the island. The initiative reflects ongoing efforts by local authorities to raise environmental standards ahead of the summer tourism season.
