Tourists staying in rental rooms, villas, or apartments across Crete should exercise caution when using kitchen appliances, particularly in older or smaller accommodations where ventilation may be limited. Never leave cooking unattended, keep flammable items away from heat sources, and locate the nearest fire extinguisher upon check-in. If you smell smoke or see flames, call the Greek emergency number 199 for the fire brigade. These incidents caused no reported injuries and there is no ongoing disruption to visitors in the Chania area.
