Back to newsFirefighters responded to a fire alarm on Mournidion Street in Chania, located above the city's Courthouse district, after a solar water heater caught fire. Two fire service vehicles were dispatched to the scene. The incident was contained and did not spread beyond the property of origin. Mournidion Street sits in a residential area above the central Chania Courthouse, away from the main tourist zones of the Old Town and the Venetian Harbour. Visitors in the area may have noticed temporary emergency vehicle activity in that street. No road closures affecting tourist routes were reported. If you are staying in central Chania, this incident does not require any change to your plans. As always during summer months in Crete, avoid leaving any heat-generating equipment unattended and follow local fire safety guidance.
