Back to newsThe Greek Red Cross has issued a public warning after reports of scammers in Chania impersonating Red Cross representatives and soliciting cash donations via WhatsApp. The individuals contact people through the messaging app claiming to collect charitable contributions on behalf of the organization. The Red Cross has confirmed these contacts are fraudulent and not affiliated with any official campaign. Tourists visiting Crete should be aware that legitimate Red Cross fundraising does not happen through unsolicited WhatsApp messages. If you receive such a message or are approached in this way, do not send money. Report suspicious contacts to local police or the official Greek Red Cross directly through verified channels.
