Back to newsThe design of the Neapoli to Agios Nikolaos section of the BOAK highway, Crete's major east-west road corridor under construction, is being revised. Authorities have announced changes to the planned route for this segment, which connects the inland town of Neapoli with the popular coastal city of Agios Nikolaos in the Lasithi region of eastern Crete. The redesign is driven by technical, environmental, or land-use considerations affecting the original alignment. For visitors, this means the long-awaited highway link through eastern Crete will take additional time before completion. Travelers heading to Agios Nikolaos, Elounda, or Spinalonga should continue to use existing roads and plan extra travel time. The BOAK highway, once finished, will significantly reduce driving times across the island.
