The tremor was recorded by seismological authorities and felt by residents in surrounding areas. Arkalochori is located approximately 25 kilometres southeast of Heraklion city. The region has a history of seismic activity, most notably the destructive 5.8 magnitude earthquake in September 2021 that caused significant damage to local villages. No injuries or structural damage have been reported from this latest event. Tourists visiting the Heraklion area, including nearby sites such as the Minoan palace of Knossos and the Lassithi Plateau, are not expected to be affected.
