Rouvas Gorge

A rewarding 8 km hike through the Rouvas oak forest gorge, one of the most biodiverse areas in Crete, located south of Heraklion near Zaros. The trail passes through old-growth Holm oak forest alongside a permanent stream. Start from the Rouvas taverna near the Zaros reservoir. Well-marked path; some steep sections. Best from March to June. Water is available from the stream but treat it before drinking.
