Kourtaliotis Gorge

A dramatic 3 km gorge near Plakias in southern Rethymno, carved by the Kourtaliotis river. The path passes the chapel of Agios Nikolaos perched in the cliff face, with a permanent spring nearby. Accessible year-round. Park at the top of the gorge on the Rethymno–Plakias road. Walking shoes are sufficient; the terrain is rocky but well-defined. Best in spring when the river runs strong.
