Elafonissi Beach Trail

A flat 2 km coastal walk at Elafonissi beach in southwest Crete, wading across a shallow lagoon to the islet with its pink-tinged sand. The crossing is typically knee-deep at most. Sunbeds, umbrellas, and a snack bar available in summer. Very busy July and August — visit before 10am or after 5pm. Best May to October. Carry water and sun protection; shade is scarce.
