Crete has three dedicated water parks in Crete worth knowing about, all concentrated along the northern coast. Two sit within 30 km of Heraklion; one is positioned for visitors based in western Crete near Chania. All operate seasonally — late May to early October — so timing and location relative to your accommodation both matter.
The Three Main Water Parks in Crete
Watercity Waterpark (Anopolis, 25 km east of Heraklion) is the largest Crete aqua park on the island, with over 40 attractions: high-speed slides, a kamikaze tower, lazy river, wave pool, and dedicated toddler zones. It sits just off the E75 motorway, well-signposted from both Heraklion and Hersonissos. 2026 entrance fees: adults €38, children aged 4–12 €27, under-4 free. Opening hours: 10:00–18:00, late May to late September. On-site facilities include restaurants, sunbed rental (€6/pair), and lockers (€5).
Aqua Plus Water Park (Hersonissos, 28 km east of Heraklion) is a mid-size family park with themed slides, a river ride, and a large toddler splash zone. It caters heavily to resort guests staying along the Hersonissos strip. Entrance: adults €32, children €22. Season: June to September. The park has two full-service restaurants and a snack bar; sunbeds cost €5/pair.
Limnoupolis Water Park (7 km south of Chania, near Varypetro village) is the best water park in Crete for anyone based in the western part of the island. Smaller than the Heraklion options, it still offers 20+ slides of varying intensity, a wave pool, and green surroundings that feel less crowded than the Hersonissos parks. Entrance: adults €28, children €20. Season: May to October. In July, queues here are noticeably shorter than at the eastern parks — a real advantage.
Getting There, Prices and What to Know
By car: All three parks offer free parking. Watercity and Aqua Plus are straightforward from the E75. Limnoupolis is reached via the road south from Chania toward Souda and Varypetro. A rental car is the most practical option for any of them — see Getting Around Crete in 2026: Car Rental, Buses and Transport Tips for current rates and advice on which companies to use.
By public transport: KTEL buses run from Heraklion bus station to Hersonissos roughly every 30 minutes in summer (fare: ~€2.50), with a stop walkable to Aqua Plus. No direct public bus serves Watercity or Limnoupolis. A taxi from Chania center to Limnoupolis costs €12–15 one way. Many hotels along the Heraklion coast run paid shuttle transfers to Watercity in peak season — check at reception.
Best time to visit: Weekday mornings in June or early September offer shorter queues and milder heat. Mid-July to mid-August is peak season — arrive at opening (10:00) to access popular slides without long waits. Current Crete weather shows dry, warm conditions typical of what you can expect from mid-June onward — ideal for a full day at a water park.
What to bring: Sunscreen (pavement temperatures reach 50°C in July–August), water shoes, and cash for lockers and food. Most parks do not permit outside food. Locker rental costs €5–8. Minimum height for major slides is 100–120 cm depending on the attraction.
Flying in? Heraklion's Nikos Kazantzakis Airport (HER) puts you closest to Watercity and Aqua Plus — roughly 20–30 minutes by car. Chania Airport (CHQ) is 20 minutes from Limnoupolis. The Crete Airports Guide 2026 covers both airports and helps you choose based on where you're staying.
