Greece observes Whit Monday with mixed business impact

Sunday, 31 May 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
Monday, June 1 is Whit Monday (Holy Spirit Day), a public holiday in Greece. Most government offices, banks, and public services will be closed across Crete. Private sector rules vary: many shops may close or operate reduced hours, while supermarkets in tourist areas often stay open under special holiday trading permissions. Pharmacies maintain their standard holiday rotation, with one per area remaining open for emergencies. Restaurants, cafes, and hospitality businesses generally operate as usual. If you need to visit a bank, plan ahead and use ATMs instead. For any urgent administrative matters, expect to wait until Tuesday. Check with your accommodation or local shops directly, as hours can vary by town and owner preference.
