A minor earthquake of magnitude 2.2 was recorded approximately 9 km west of Falasarna, on the northwestern coast of Crete, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at 11:48 pm local time (GMT +3). Falasarna is a popular beach destination known for its turquoise waters and ancient ruins. At magnitude 2.2, this is a very weak tremor, well below the threshold for causing damage or being felt by most people. No injuries, structural damage, or disruptions to tourism infrastructure have been reported. Visitors to the Falasarna area and western Crete can continue their activities as normal.
