Tourist injured while disembarking ferry at Heraklion Port

Monday, 22 June 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
A 70-year-old tourist was injured while disembarking from a ferry at Heraklion Port and was transported to Venizeleio General Hospital for treatment. The incident was confirmed by the Hellenic Coast Guard, which oversees safety operations at the port. No further details about the tourist's nationality or the severity of injuries have been released. Heraklion Port is one of the busiest ferry hubs in the Aegean, with regular connections to Athens (Piraeus), Santorini, and other Cycladic islands. Passengers disembarking from large ferries, particularly older travelers or those carrying heavy luggage, should take extra care on gangways and ramps, which can be sloped or uneven. Wearing flat, non-slip footwear and allowing port staff to assist with boarding and disembarking is strongly recommended. If you witness an accident at the port, contact the Coast Guard immediately at 108.
