Monday, 22 June 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min read
Greek coast guard authorities intercepted a vessel carrying 48 migrants south of Kalon Limenes (Fair Havens), a small bay on the southern coast of Crete. The area, located along the Libyan Sea coastline in the Heraklion regional unit, is a remote stretch known for its historical significance as the anchorage mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles. Search and rescue operations were conducted by the Hellenic Coast Guard, which routinely patrols these southern waters. This incident has no direct impact on tourist activities in the region. Visitors traveling to nearby beaches such as Matala or Lentas should expect no disruption. Coast guard presence in the southern coastal zone remains active. Tourists with boats in the area are advised to follow standard maritime protocols and report any vessels in distress to the Hellenic Coast Guard on channel 16.
