Greece Hits €22.6B Tourism Record as Visitors Spend More, Stay Same

Wednesday, 24 June 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min read
Greek tourism in 2025 generated €22.6 billion in revenues, according to recent figures, though the number of overnight stays remained nearly flat compared to the previous year. This suggests visitors are spending more per trip rather than arriving in greater numbers. Notably, 90% of tourism income is concentrated in just five regions, with Crete consistently ranking among the top destinations nationally. For visitors planning a trip to Crete, this spending trend points to a mature, higher-value market: expect well-developed hospitality infrastructure, competitive accommodation options, and strong service standards. However, the concentration of tourism in key regions also means popular areas such as Heraklion, Chania, and Rethymno can experience significant crowds during peak summer months. Booking accommodations and activities in advance remains strongly advisable, particularly for travel between June and September.
