Minor 3.5 Earthquake Near Crete, No Damage or Tsunami Risk

Sunday, 31 May 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min read
A magnitude 3.5 earthquake was recorded in the sea between Crete and the island of Kasos, located southeast of Crete in the Dodecanese. Earthquakes of this size are common in the eastern Mediterranean, which sits on an active seismic zone. A 3.5 magnitude event is generally considered minor and is unlikely to be felt strongly on land or cause any damage. No tsunami warning was issued. Tourists currently on Crete or traveling to the island have no cause for concern. If you feel a small tremor during your stay, remain calm, move away from windows, and follow guidance from local authorities. The Greek seismological institute monitors seismic activity continuously and issues alerts when necessary. Such minor seismic events do not affect flights, ferries, or daily activities on the island.
