Greeks Return Home Following Pentecost Holiday Weekend

Monday, 1 June 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
Greeks are returning home following the Agios Pneumatos (Holy Spirit) three-day holiday weekend, one of Greece's major public holidays marking Pentecost. Traffic is flowing smoothly as travelers make their way back from regional destinations to Athens and Attica. For tourists currently in Crete, ferries and airports may see higher-than-usual passenger volumes today as domestic Greek travelers return alongside international visitors. If you are departing Crete by ferry to the mainland or catching a connecting flight through Athens, allow extra time at ports and terminals. Road conditions on the island itself are not reported as affected. The Holy Spirit holiday typically brings increased domestic tourism to Crete, so hotels, restaurants, and beaches may have been busier over the past few days, with crowds expected to ease by tomorrow.
