A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck near Methoni, in the southwestern Peloponnese region of mainland Greece, at approximately 9:20 PM. The tremor was felt across several areas of the Peloponnese but caused no reported damage or injuries. Seismologist Vassilis Karastathis stated that an earthquake of this size is unlikely to trigger activity on other fault lines. Methoni is located on the Greek mainland, roughly 300 kilometers northwest of Crete. Visitors currently in Crete would not have felt this earthquake, and there is no impact on travel to or within the island. No tsunami warning was issued. Tourists planning ferry crossings between Crete and the Peloponnese should check with their operator for any updates, though no disruptions have been reported.
