Crete Tightens E-Scooter Safety After Young Riders Injured

Thursday, 18 June 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min read
Authorities in Crete are raising concerns over a rise in electric scooter accidents, following two serious incidents that left minors in intensive care. The cases have prompted local officials and medical staff to call for greater caution among riders of all ages. Electric scooters are widely available for rent in tourist areas across the island, including Heraklion and Chania. Visitors planning to use them are advised to wear a helmet at all times, stay off main roads where possible, and ensure any children in their group do not ride unsupervised. Greek traffic law requires a valid driving licence for motorised scooters above a certain power threshold. If renting, confirm the vehicle category and applicable rules with the rental provider before heading out.
