The Port of Heraklion Authority (OLH) has signed an official contract with HEC, a specialized waste management company, for the comprehensive treatment of liquid waste at Heraklion Port. The agreement establishes a full system for collecting, processing, and disposing of wastewater generated by vessels docking at Crete's busiest port. This initiative brings the port into compliance with international maritime environmental standards and contributes to cleaner waters around the harbor area. For tourists arriving by ferry from Athens, the Greek islands, or Italy, the port remains fully operational with no disruption to services.
