A planned luxury hotel development in Akrotiri, a peninsula just north of Chania city, has lost its government-backed development status. The Greek Ministry of Development revoked the inclusion of Kavos Luxury Estates S.A. in the national development law, canceling subsidies tied to the 3.4 million euro project.
Akrotiri is home to several monasteries, beaches, and Chania International Airport, making it a frequently visited area for tourists in western Crete. The revocation means the planned upscale accommodation project will not benefit from state investment incentives, and its future is now uncertain.
Visitors to Akrotiri will notice no immediate change on the ground. However, those planning longer stays in the Chania area should be aware that anticipated new luxury accommodation options in this location may not materialize on any previously projected timeline.
