Heraklion Airport Records 3.4M Passengers, Eyes Record Year in 2026

Thursday, 2 July 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
Heraklion Airport has recorded more than 3.4 million passengers in the first six months of 2026, representing nearly 6% growth compared to the same period last year. The airport director, Iakovos Ouranos, expects 2026 to become a new all-time record year for passenger traffic at the facility, which serves as Crete's main international gateway. For visitors, this increase in demand means flights to and from Heraklion are filling up faster than in previous seasons. Travelers planning trips to central or eastern Crete are advised to book flights early, particularly for peak summer travel in July and August. Higher passenger volumes may also mean longer queues at check-in and security during busy periods, so arriving at the airport with extra time before departure is recommended.
