Crete Records 1.7M Air Arrivals, Posts Double-Digit Growth

Tuesday, 30 June 2026/SourceTornos News/1 min read
Crete recorded over 1.7 million air arrivals in the first five months of 2026, according to the latest data from INSETE (the Institute of the Greek Tourism Confederation). International arrivals posted double-digit growth compared to the same period last year, confirming Crete's position as one of Europe's leading summer destinations. The figures cover January through May and reflect strong early-season demand, particularly from northern European markets. Heraklion International Airport (HER) and Chania International Airport (CHQ) handle the bulk of these arrivals, with both airports seeing increased flight frequencies from major carriers. For visitors planning a summer trip, the high demand means booking flights and accommodation well in advance is advisable. Direct routes from the UK, Germany, and Scandinavia are widely available, with peak season running from July through August.
