Greece Reports 26% Drop in Irregular Migration; Crete Still Receives Arrivals

Tuesday, 9 June 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min read
Greek Migration Minister Plevrys announced a 26% reduction in irregular migration flows to Greece in 2026 compared to the previous year. Crete remains the only area in Greece still experiencing notable migratory pressure, with the island continuing to receive arrivals by sea. Greek coast guard and reception services remain active in managing these arrivals, primarily in coastal areas of eastern and southern Crete. For tourists, this has no direct impact on travel, beaches, or resorts. Standard coastal safety guidelines apply: avoid unmarked vessels and report any distress situations at sea to the Greek Coast Guard (emergency number 108). Tourist infrastructure and main visitor areas are unaffected by this activity.
