Back to newsGreek coast guard authorities intercepted a dinghy carrying dozens of migrants off the southern coast of Crete. The vessel was detected in the waters south of the island, a route commonly used by people attempting to reach Europe from North Africa or the Middle East. Rescue operations were conducted to bring those on board to safety. This type of incident occasionally occurs in southern Cretan waters and is handled by the Hellenic Coast Guard. It has no direct impact on tourist activities or travel to and around Crete. Ferry services, beaches, and coastal areas used by visitors remain unaffected. Tourists in the region should be aware that if they spot a vessel in distress at sea, they should contact the Greek emergency line at 112 or the coast guard at 108.
