Transformer Fire Briefly Disrupts Chania Services

Wednesday, 10 June 2026/SourceFlashnews/1 min read
A transformer short circuit caused a fire in a residential neighborhood in Chania, the main city on the western side of Crete. The fire brigade responded quickly and brought the situation under control. During the incident, police temporarily closed nearby streets to traffic, and the local power grid was shut down in the affected area as a precautionary measure. Tourists staying in or passing through Chania should be aware that brief traffic diversions and localized power outages can occur in residential neighborhoods during such incidents. If you are driving in Chania and encounter unexpected road closures, follow police directions and allow extra time to reach your destination. No injuries were reported. Normal conditions are expected to resume once electrical repairs are completed by the utility provider.
