Back to newsEmergency medical services (EKAB) in Malia are experiencing high demand during summer nights due to alcohol-related incidents involving tourists. Malia, located on Crete's northern coast east of Heraklion, is well known for its nightlife scene and attracts large numbers of young visitors each summer.
Paramedics are responding repeatedly to cases of intoxication and related injuries as the tourist season peaks. The volume of call-outs is placing strain on local emergency resources.
Tourists visiting Malia should be aware that response times may be longer during busy nights. Drinking water between alcoholic beverages, eating before going out, and traveling in groups are standard precautions. If someone in your group becomes unwell, call 166 to reach EKAB. Local bars and hotels can also assist in contacting emergency services quickly.
