Back to newsA tourist died at Stalida beach on the northern coast of Crete after getting into difficulty in the sea. Bystanders and emergency responders attempted CPR but were unable to revive her. Stalida (also spelled Stalis) is a popular resort beach located between Hersonissos and Malia, roughly 28 km east of Heraklion.
Swimmers should exercise caution at Cretan beaches, particularly during afternoon hours when sea conditions can change and fatigue is more common. Always swim near a lifeguarded area, pay attention to flag warnings, and avoid swimming alone. If you witness someone in distress in the water, call 112 immediately and, if trained, begin CPR until emergency services arrive.
