Crete baked by 37°C heatwave and powerful meltemi winds

Saturday, 27 June 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min read
Crete is experiencing a summer heatwave with temperatures reaching 37°C (99°F), particularly in inland and low-elevation areas. Alongside the heat, strong meltemi winds are forecast at 6 to 7 Beaufort, mainly affecting northern coastal zones and open sea routes. Tourists should drink plenty of water, avoid prolonged sun exposure during midday hours (12:00 to 16:00), and seek shade or air-conditioned spaces. The strong winds may cause disruptions to ferry connections between Crete and nearby islands, so travelers with scheduled boat trips should check departures in advance with their operator. Beach conditions on exposed northern shores may be rough, while southern and sheltered coves will offer calmer swimming. Lightweight clothing, sunscreen, and a hat are strongly recommended for any outdoor activity during this period.
