Anogia's Weaving Center Opens, Celebrates Cretan Textile Traditions

Tuesday, 5 May 2026/Flashnews/1
The Weaving Center in Anogia, a mountain village in central Crete known for its strong textile traditions, is holding an opening event. Visitors can join an introductory guided tour of the nearby Archaeological Site of Zominthos at 15:00, followed by the main opening ceremony at the Weaving Center at 17:30. Zominthos is a Minoan palatial complex situated on the slopes of Mount Psiloritis, making it a compelling stop for those interested in ancient Cretan history. Anogia itself is renowned for its handwoven rugs and embroideries, and the Weaving Center offers a look into this living craft tradition. The village is approximately 50 kilometres south of Heraklion. Both the archaeological tour and the center opening are open to the public and offer a combined cultural experience suitable for a half-day excursion from the northern coast.
