Crane Truck Drops Sign, Narrowly Misses Motorcycle in Crete

Saturday, 13 June 2026/SourceFlashnews/1 min read
A crane truck struck and brought down a road sign on a Cretan road, narrowly missing a motorcycle carrying two passengers travelling directly behind the vehicle. The incident, captured on video, shows how quickly road conditions can become dangerous when large commercial vehicles are in traffic. The two motorcyclists escaped without injury. Tourists driving or riding in Crete should keep a safe following distance from trucks, crane vehicles, and heavy machinery, which are common on roads due to ongoing construction across the island. Crane trucks can carry wide or unsecured loads that shift unexpectedly. Road signage can also obscure hazards ahead, particularly on narrower routes. If you are renting a scooter or motorcycle during your stay, exercise extra caution around large vehicles and avoid travelling in their blind spots.
