Tuesday, 16 June 2026/SourceFlashnews/1 min read
A field fire broke out in Chrysopigi, in the Chania regional unit of western Crete, near the Chrysopigi Monastery. Firefighting units were deployed to the scene to contain the blaze, which occurred close to residential properties. No injuries or structural damage to the monastery have been reported. Tourists visiting the Chrysopigi Monastery area should expect a temporary presence of fire service vehicles and possible access restrictions nearby. The monastery remains one of the notable religious landmarks in the Chania area. Visitors to western Crete are reminded that dry summer conditions significantly increase wildfire risk across the island. Avoid lighting fires in open areas, do not discard cigarettes in vegetation, and follow any safety instructions issued by local authorities during your stay.
