Back to newsA section of the BOAK highway between Neapolis and Agios Nikolaos is temporarily closed to traffic due to ongoing roadworks. Temporary traffic management measures were put in place starting Thursday, June 18. The BOAK is the main east-west artery connecting central and eastern Crete, and this section is frequently used by tourists travelling between Heraklion and Agios Nikolaos or the Lasithi region. Drivers heading to destinations such as Elounda, Spinalonga, or Sitia should expect delays and possible detours along the old national road. Allow extra travel time if your itinerary passes through this corridor. Local signage will indicate alternative routes. Check with your accommodation or rental car provider for the latest traffic updates before setting out eastward from Heraklion.
