Back to newsGreece's food safety authority (EFET) has issued an urgent recall for a packaged salad product after detecting Listeria monocytogenes, a potentially dangerous foodborne pathogen. The recall applies to a product from a well-known company and requires immediate withdrawal from market shelves across the country, including Crete.
Listeria can cause serious illness, particularly in pregnant women, elderly individuals, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, and gastrointestinal issues, sometimes appearing weeks after consumption.
If you have recently purchased packaged salad in Crete, check the product label and do not consume it if it matches the recalled item. Return it to the store where you bought it. When in doubt, opt for freshly prepared salads at restaurants or wash pre-packaged greens thoroughly before eating.
