Greece Supermarket Prices Rise 1.14% as Food Inflation Slows

Wednesday, 3 June 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
Supermarket prices across Greece rose by 1.14% in May 2026 compared to May 2025, according to data released by IELKA, the Institute of Retail Consumer Goods Research. The increase is modest and reflects a continued slowdown in food inflation following higher spikes in previous years. For tourists visiting Crete, this means grocery shopping at local supermarkets such as Sklavenitis, AB Vassilopoulos, or Lidl remains affordable. Daily essentials including fresh produce, dairy, and beverages are competitively priced compared to most Western European countries. Visitors planning self-catering stays or stocking up for beach days will find supermarket costs reasonable. Local markets and village shops may offer even better value, particularly for seasonal fruits, vegetables, and olive oil sourced directly from Cretan producers.
