Back to newsA large and dangerous pothole has been present on a village road in Venerato, a settlement in the Heraklion regional unit, for approximately one month. Local residents have raised serious concerns about the hazard, warning that it poses a significant risk to drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians. Despite repeated complaints from the community, municipal authorities have yet to respond or schedule repairs.
Venerato is located roughly 15 kilometres south of Heraklion city and is accessible by road from the main highway network. Tourists driving rental cars or motorcycles through inland Heraklion villages should exercise caution on secondary and village roads, particularly in this area. Road maintenance on rural routes can be slow, and hazards may not be marked with warning signs. Reducing speed when entering villages and staying alert to road surface conditions is strongly advised when exploring the Cretan interior.
