Back to newsA magnitude 3.5 earthquake struck the sea area between Crete and Kasos on Sunday, May 31. Earlier in the day, the same zone experienced additional tremors, including a slightly stronger 3.7 magnitude event. Both earthquakes were centered offshore, in the waters separating the southeastern tip of Crete from the small island of Kasos. Seismic activity of this scale is common in the eastern Mediterranean and typically causes no damage or risk to people on land. Tourists visiting Crete, including the eastern regions of Lasithi and the coastal areas near Sitia, should be aware of the activity but have no reason for concern. No damage, injuries, or disruptions to travel or services have been reported in connection with these events.
